exertion of trekking. Rest days also give opportunities to explore nearby villages,

starting point of the trek, as well as any necessary preparations to be done before and
after this journey. This may include arranging transportation, obtaining permits,
purchasing supplies, and attending orientation sessions or briefings conducted by local
authorities or trekking agencies.
Elevation : The elevation of the Shrikhand Mahadev peak, the highest point of the yatra,
reaches approximately 18,700 feet (5,700 meters) above sea level. This makes it one of the
highest pilgrimage treks in India, offering breathtaking views but also presenting challenges
associated with high altitude.
The elevation of the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra is an important factor to consider for anyone
planning to undertake this pilgrimage trek. Here’s an explanation:
Starting Elevation: The trek typically begins at a moderate to high elevation, depending
on the specific starting point chosen by the pilgrims. For example, Jaon Village or
Singhad, which serve as common starting points, are situated at elevations ranging from
approximately 6,000 to 9,000 feet (1,800 to 2,700 meters) above sea level.
Peak Elevation: The highlight of the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra is reaching the sacred

Shrikhand Mahadev. The total altitude gain can vary depending on the specific route
chosen, but it often involves climbing several thousand feet over the course of the
journey.
High Altitude Challenges: The high altitude presents various challenges for pilgrims or
trekkers, including decreased oxygen levels, thinner air, and harsh weather conditions
such as rain, cold temperatures, strong winds, and occasional snowfall, especially at
higher elevations. Trekkers should be appropriately prepared physically, mentally, and
with appropriate gear to cope up with these challenges.
Altitude Sickness: Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a
common concern for pilgrims and trekkers ascending to high elevations. The symptoms
of acute mountain sickness (AMS) can include dizziness, headaches, nausea, fatigue, and
difficulty in breathing. Trekkers should acclimatize properly, stay hydrated, and ascend
gradually to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
Hence it is essential for pilgrims and trekkers to adequately prepare for the physical demands
and environmental conditions they will encounter along the pilgrimage route. Proper
acclimatization, physical fitness, and awareness of altitude-related risks are key factors in
ensuring a safe and enjoyable trekking experience to the sacred summit of Shrikhand Mahadev.
